Don’t be intimidated by the drivers that have been doing this for years. You can’t beat seat time. We’ve all started at the same spot and killed our share of cones. Walk the course, ride with others, and don’t be afraid to ask for help. |

Jeff NoyesPosition: Course Design/Safety Email: safety@nccautocross.com Autocrossing Since: 2010 Autocross Car: 2017 BMW M2 Profession: Retired Coast Guard Engineer Advice To Newcomers: Read up a little – I really like Ross Bentley’s “Winning Autocross Techniques”. The cliches you’ll hear the experienced guys use really are true: smooth is fast; slow in, fast out; eyes up/look way out ahead. The hard part is getting a grip on what the words really mean and why it’s faster, but one day it’ll just click and the fun really begins! Invest in yourself first then the car. Go to AX School with NCC BMWCCA, SCCA or EVO (once you have a little experience). Take advantage of Test and Tunes to get a phenomenal amount of seat time. Get a committee member to ride shotgun with you and really listen to what they say. Ask to ride with them (preferably in the afternoon during non-competition runs, please). We all want to help you go faster – it raises everyone’s game and makes it even more fun all around. |
